Happy Birthday, XML!
Posted on Wednesday June 21st, 2006
First of all, I am not dead, I've just been very busy making the world a better place, at least for myself at work, ha! We're working on a huge project at LevelTen which I'm dying to tell you about, but cannot just yet.
I was recently pointed to an interesting little article over at IBM about the Technical context and cultural consequences of XML. While SGML enjoys its 20th birthday, XML is turning 10. We've come a long way since laying out the ideals of XML, and the end is nowhere in sight! Not only internet business, but information management in general has been flipped upside down by XML and its stengths.
I owe my livelihood to the minds that have laid the brick and mortar upon which web pages stand. Developers everywhere are waking up to the advantages of minding information design versus simply appeasing the graphic aspects of web design. In fact, I'll have a couple articles dealing with this very topic in the near future about how we're changing our entire workflow at LevelTen. Happy Birthday, XML! ¤
